The Easiest and Most Enjoyable Way to Detox Ever.

Say the word “detox” and you’re likely to get one of two reactions: “I’m into it!” Or, “that’s total B.S.” Many people of the latter opinion argue that our bodies are beautifully designed and perfectly capable of detoxing on their own, just as they've done for thousands of years.

We totally agree. And disagree. Our bodies ARE mind-blowingly amazing creations, infinitely wise and definitely able to take care of themselves, HOWEVER, the fact is, we live in the most toxic time in human existence.

Roughly 2,000 new chemicals are released into the environment every year and the EPA can only test about 20 of those at a time!

Never before in the history of mankind have our bodies been responsible for cleaning out so much junk. So, yes, while our bodies are certainly capable of detoxing, a little extra help from us certainly isn’t going to hurt.

The good news is that you don’t have to spend millions of dollars to detox. Nor do you have to guzzle down sludgy-looking concoctions or stick a tube up your rear. Unless you want to... (More on that in future blogs!)

There is one method of detoxing that’s cheap, effective, and immensely enjoyable…

Epsom salt baths.

HOW DO EPSOM SALT BATHS HELP YOU DETOX?

Epsom salts are a mineral compound containing magnesium and sulfate. Both magnesium and sulfate help facilitate our body’s detoxification process. Magnesium is needed for the enzymatic reactions carried out in Phase I of our liver’s three-stage detoxification process. In Phase I, the liver transforms chemicals to make them water soluble. Sulfates are needed for Phase II. Sulfur binds to the substances created by Phase I and renders them less hazardous.

The heat of a bath also facilitates detox. First, heat makes you sweat – one of our body’s primary ways of eliminating toxins. Second, heat makes your pores open, so they act as a two-way street, enabling you to sweat out the toxins and draw in the minerals from the bath water.

HOW TO DETOX WITH AN EPSOM SALT BATH

      1. Get the right temperature: When you’re drawing the bath, the water should be warm enough to break a sweat. Fill up the bath with enough water to cover your belly button.

      2. Use enough salt: Don’t be stingy! Use anywhere from 2-6 cups of Epsom salt.

      3. Soak up the time: To ensure absorption of the minerals, make sure you soak for around 20 minutes or more.

      4. Hydrate: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to replenish the fluids you lost while sweating.

      5. Treat yo self: Enjoy Epsom salt bath therapy 3-4 days per week. Not only are Epsom salt baths a great way to help support your body's detoxification process they're also an excellent form of #selfcare.

Sharon’s Pro Tip: If you choose to incorporate Epsom salt baths into your wellness routine, you should stop using antiperspirant for a few days before your bath. After your bath, switch to a deodorant that's organic and allows you to sweat.

“I started drinking bone broth a few years back when I was desperate to get my health back in order. It’s now a staple in our home… On the weeks where I am feeling a little less inclined to make my own, I really enjoy @bonafideprovisions.”
